“Eprapah” has been developed as our main Environmental Training Centre in Queensland. Environmental Training is provided to both our own Members, and any ‘outside’ organisations, by an experienced and qualified Environmental Training Team. A Network of Nature Trails, Walking Tracks and Boardwalks leads to many environmentally interesting sites along Eprapah Creek. BITING PESTS OF THE AUSTRALIAN BUSH AND HOW TO DEAL WITH THEM Mosquitoes, sand flies and ticks are all common bush inhabitants. Protection is best. Apply repellent (those that contain natural PYRETHRINS) all over the skin before dressing to come to Eprapah. Also, apply repellent to clothing and reapply after a few hours. TICKS are the most feared… but treatment is easy. All three stages are all dealt with similarly: * Larva (pin-point size) * Nymph (pin head size) * Adult (tea-leaf size) 1. The first priority is to kill the tick as soon as possible. 2. Spray with insect repellent sprays or dab with a cotton bud and diluted pyrethrin. This will kill the tick and prevent any further feeding. 3. The tick will not detach itself straight away, but will shrivel and drop off with the mouthparts intact. This may take up to 24 hours. Apply antiseptic to the bite area as an added precaution. Please do not let these "biters" spoil your visit to Eprapah. BE PREPARED and you will be surprised to learn how much there is to explore and learn. Programs are based on the World Conservation Badge for Cub Scouts through to Rovers. Special ‘Adventure Days’ are provided for Joey Scouts to explore the world of nature based on a chosen theme. Adult Weekend Courses are held for Leaders, Badge Examiners and interested Adults. Special interest courses in Bushland, Freshwater and Marine Environment are based at Eprapah for the Venturer Scout Environment Tape.
